Chris DeGeus in Warehousing

Meet Chris, Our Inventory Wizard with a Winning Game Plan 🧙⚽🏆

Chris joined Meyer Food Co. in 2016, bringing with him a wealth of hands-on experience from his early years in butchery at Woolworths. Starting as a butcher, Chris spent over six years mastering his craft before transitioning into his current role as Production Inventory Coordinator — keeping an eye on everything that goes into our production room.

Chris's journey at Meyer Food Co. has been one of growth and adaptation. Moving from butchery to inventory management wasn’t without its challenges, but Chris tackled them head-on. He quickly realised that communication and patience are key, especially when it comes to getting to grips with our diverse product codes and ingredients. His efforts to understand the finer points of our products — even exploring the nuances of cooking and flavours — show his strong commitment to the team.

Outside of work, Chris is as passionate as they come—especially when it involves soccer. A lifelong fan of the game, Chris doesn’t just watch and play; he coaches. For the past three years, he’s been guiding a local under-16s team, watching them grow, improve, and even clinch a championship last year. However, a knee injury at 17 put an end to any hopes of playing at a high level. While the injury may have sidelined his playing career, it hasn't dampened his love for the game. He still plays casually, but these days, coaching is where his heart truly lies.

Second to soccer, his favourite sport would probably be Quidditch, given his love for the enchanting world of Harry Potter and its captivating storylines. He has an awesome collection of 6 wands that are professionally framed.

Family is central to Chris’s life, with his father, Nick, also being a long-time member of the Meyer Food Co. team for over 15 years. Working alongside his dad has been a unique experience, and while they may have the occasional clash, their cooperative spirit is a testament to their close bond.

When it comes to food, Chris knows what he likes. He’s a fan of simple comforts, with sweet and sour pork from his local Chinese spot being a top favourite. While he leaves most of the cooking to his partner—who, by the way, makes a killer pork ragout—Chris is no stranger to appreciating a good meal. He’s particularly fond of working with lamb leg for its ease of preparation and pork neck for its rich, delicious flavour. And if there’s one cooking tip he lives by, it’s that Sous Vide is a game-changer, especially for cuts like pork shoulder that need that extra bit of love to become perfectly tender.

Chris might not be the most adventurous eater, but he does have a secret food combo that he swears by: McDonald’s chips dipped in soft serve. It’s a love-it-or-hate-it treat, and for Chris, it’s pure indulgence.

Thank you, Chris, for your dedication, your team spirit, and the passion you bring to Meyer Food Co. every day. Your journey from, combined with your love for soccer and family, makes you a valued member of our team. Here’s to many more years of growth success and success together!
